Average Weather Conditions In Berlin
Though Berlin is the political Capital of Germany visitors should note that the weather in Berlin is not representative of the weather in Germany as a whole. Berlin is part of the Northern German Plain which is comparatively low lying when compared with central and southern Germany where the land rising significantly – peeking in the German Alps.
Though these physicals changes have little influence on temperatures in the summer months there are marked differences in the temperatures during the winter when southern and central Germany can be significantly colder than the northern areas.
Summers in Berlin tend to be settled and warm. Occasionally they can be hot. June July and August are statistically the wettest months of the year due to the occurrence of thunderstorms. However the number of rainy days in these months – on average fourteen – can expected any month of the year. The humidity in Berlin is high in the summer particularly in July and August when it frequently exceeds 80%.
Spring can occur at anytime during March and April and Autumn sets in during October and November.
Winters in Berlin are generally cold or very cold with temperatures often struggling to reach freezing or above. Severe cold may occur at anytime between December and February when easterly and north easterly winds from Russia and Finland set in. These winds may be bring snow sometimes heavy. However only in severe winters are these conditions enduring and in general Berlin winters alternate between mild and cold spells.
Visitors to Berlin should note that November and March are also susceptible to low temperatures particularly at night.
